Alternative Pet Care MD is owned and operated by Sandy and Kyle Hayward. A few years ago, we set out to provide a professional pet care service, offering the kind of pet sitters and pet care your pet would choose if he or she were in charge. Now, with many paws of praise and tails waggin’ in neighboring areas, we’re pretty sure we got it right! We have successfully grown to be one of the most referred and preferred in-home companion care companies in the area.
Much more than just dog walkers, we also offer pet sitting and special needs care. Our pet sitters are highly qualified, First Aid Pet Certified and Veterinary trained to care for the basic needs of your pet(s) as well as emergency situations.
OUR BACKGROUND
For the past 12 years, Sandy and Kyle Hayward held senior positions with Fortune 500 companies ranging from Telecom to Veterinary. From 1990-2001, we served as Government Contract Liaison with AT&T and MCI Internet Engineering Implementation. “We helped craft the communication backbone with FTS2000 and UUNET.”
In 2002, Sandy led a local veterinary practice, managing the company’s marketing, medical training and web development. She has worked in the industry for the past 8 years. She is best known for improving practices with strategic planning, compliance, and new practical marketing and training programs which help veterinarians and their staffs market their services more effectively.
We are unique to this industry; there aren’t many companies that are familiar or trained in animal emergency care. We can take the necessary measures to assist your vet or emergency care location with preliminary diagnosis.
Here are some examples: In an emergency situation, if your pet is lethargic and not drinking or eating, we can check to see if your pet is dehydrated by observing the capillary re-fill time and coloring/texture of the gum-line. We can check their temperature and know whether it is too high or low.
If your pet is vomiting repeatedly, we will try to stabilize them and get them back to eating normally. If they are experiencing signs of stress and exhibiting lack of appetite and recurring diarrhea, we will prepare a gruel and try to regain a normal bowel function.
If your pet is stung by a bee or breaks out in uncontrollable hives, we know what medication they should take in the interim of vet care, if needed.
Additionally, we are licensed, bonded, insured and veterinary trained. Our dog walkers and pet sitters are available 7 days a week, including all holidays and short notice.
